Using Genealogy Software To Trace One’s Roots

Every story has a beginning. This may have happened more than 300 years ago or even longer and without it, the person will not be who he or she is today.

This is better known as the genealogy tree. Anyone can do it but this will be a long process sometimes taking months or years before this can be completed.

The person should first start with the immediately family and then work backward. This can first be placed on a board but as this gets bigger, perhaps using genealogy software will be a good idea to store all the work.

The individual can download it from the Internet for free and then use it to put the puzzle together. Here are few examples that are worth using.

1. RootsMagic is a user-friendly program that is designed to help beginners organize the genealogy tree. It has charts and reports which can be reviewed and revised a number of times especially when new information has been discovered.

2. Another software program is known as the Master Genealogist. This will work well for those who have been conducting a search for a longer period of time and want something better to keep all the information.

3. The Legacy Family Tree is also another interesting program to try out. It can do the same thing similar to other programs out there in the market and beginners can download the system for free.

4. The family tree maker can also be used to help organize all the information that has been collected from various sources. The user can even upload images making it possible to associate a picture with a name.

5. Ancestral Quest 11 can also be used for those who want to trace one’s family roots. The program compares well with the others. Unfortunately, this can only run if the person uses a windows operating system.

The 5 genealogy software programs are just a few of those available that can help put the pieces of the puzzle together for the person to trace one’s roots. Some will allow the user to download this for free while others will ask for a small fee.

The individual should probably compare the prices and see how one program fairs over the others before deciding which one to use.

Since the information that the parents or the surviving relatives may be limited, it will also be a good idea to use online software to aid in the process.

The person can always start with the major search engines such as Google or Yahoo. This is because every major event past and present has been catalogued in the web for future reference. The person can start by typing the surname and then see what happens next.

Afterwards, the person can move into other sources such as the obituaries, specialized and government websites.

The process of tracing one’s roots will not happen overnight. It will take some time to collect all the information, before this can be uploaded into the genealogy software.

Perhaps after it is finished, the person can present this to the world. The individual can create a website so that other relatives may be able to get in touch with the past, live in the present and look forward to the future.
