Mormon and Genealogy, the Direct Link

The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Say Saints is a religion that is rapidly rising popularity worldwide. The members of the church are like missionaries that spread the gospel and the advantage of their religion over other existing religions.

Aside from the religious affiliation, the church is also offering other services that can be of great help even to non-members. Among these services is the genealogy data for people who are aiming to find out about their ancestry.

Mormon church, as the Latter-Day Saints church is more known, maintains and update a database that contain basic information about families' histories.

Mormon has this special service called Family History Library that contains a comprehensive catalogue about family names and ancestral data.

Genealogy

Genealogy is a word referring to the study of descents of a family or families traced back from ancestors. Genealogy is one line of study that has not been of great popularity to people.

However, through the years, statistics show that there are more and more people who are starting to get into knowing family ancestral backgrounds. Reasons vary from pure investigative, to just a past time.

It would be interesting and exciting to trace back the origin of the family and to identify those unknown people to you that may be related through genes of bloodlines.

To understand genealogy even more, you may start thinking about the how the children of your children would treat each other as generations pass. As descendants go on, from generations to generations, it would be impossible to keep a close link.

Thus, about five to six generations from now, the children of your great, great grand children may perhaps not know each other. That is the case how you do not know people who exist today that are blood-affiliated to you.

Mormon and genealogy

Basically, to find out more about your genealogic links, you may opt seeking help from the local Archive office of civil registry. But for people whose ancestors may have come from other countries outside the United States, the search using existing public records may fall futile.

In contrast, the Mormon's database or Family History Library would be of great help. The database runs a feature called the International Genealogical Index or IGI that contains information that is not limited to local recorded data.

Genealogy of families that can be traced back from other countries is also readily retrievable from IGI.

For quite some time, the Mormon church has been paying particular attention to the archival records of families. Since the religion is basically about the restoration of the old state of the original church founded by Jesus Christ, Mormon made sure that link between people, or at least the information, would be kept in records.

How to use the Family History Library

To use the Family History Library facility, you can approach the Mormon church nearest you. You would be asked to fill up forms pertaining to your family name and the identified origin of ancestors. If the origin information is not certain, the database would be helpful in identifying it.

The service is free for all. However, the searcher may be asked to shed out a little investment for the investment, which is not that costly.

The search can also be done online. Just log in to the official Mormon Web page and go to the LDS Family Search section. Information can be retrieved within seconds of minutes.

Some people find it imperative to know about the history of their ancestors. Because history repeats itself, it is good to know about the past as people look forward to the future and live to the present. Good luck.
