Genealogy Using Family History Library of the Latter Day Saints

Have you ever felt that you are itching to find out the history and family line of your ancestors?

Sometimes, people want to find out more about their pasts and their families' histories so they can look forward to the present and to the future with positive perspective.

Genealogy is the particular term that refers to the study of the family line of one's ancestors. For example, you may want to find out about the historical line of the parents of your great grand parents. Don't you find it interesting as well as exciting to find out which families you may have a direct blood relationship with?

For quite sometime, a number of people have been involved in genealogy. These people almost always have been intrigued at the family line and some people that may have blood affinity to them.

Statistics show that about five of every ten people that undertake a genealogical study hope that somehow, they may be blood related to royalties and powerful politicians.

The whole process of tracing back the bloodlines from distant ancestors is not an easy one. It is too complicated and stringent research must be accomplished.

Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

One of the most reliable and currently pre-eminent source of data for genealogical studies is the Family History of the Church of Latter-Day
Saints.

As you all know, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, or more commonly known as Mormons, is a religion independent from the more widely popular Roman Catholic religion. However, the services for genealogy is open to all, be for Mormons or for people with other religion.

The basic way to make use of the genealogy services of the Latter Day Saints is to approach their headquarters, or to the nearest Mormon church to you.

These churches are linked to each other in a network-like fashion. You would be asked to disclose some pertinent information, like your surname and perhaps, some names of your ancestors.

The personnel would not directly help you. You will be left to the searching yourself, but you would be allowed to access their database. Otherwise, especially if the family line can be traced back somewhere else other than the United States, the process would take longer, and some offshore branches' resources would have to be used.

For a more convenient search of family history, you can also make use of the online resources of the Family History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Just log on to the Mormon's official Web site and click on the LDS Family Search button. You would be asked to type in keywords, mainly surnames and several first names.

Why use Latter-Day Saints' resources

Perhaps, you might be asking why there is a need to use the Church of Latter-Day Saints' resources when tracing back ancestral information. The answer is simple and quite logical.

For decades, even centuries, the Church of the Latter Day Saints has been very particular and committed to keeping records and maintaining databases containing basic information about people.

Of course, the local and national civil registry would also have those retrievable records, but making use of the government's records to extract information would be very tedious and would require many documents that would show that the effort is legal and would not be used improperly.

Genealogic searches through the Mormon's genealogic network would be less costly and less formal, making it more convenient and ideal for informal searches.
